Vintage Pink Rhodonite Snuff Bottle

Rhodonite is a very pretty stone that is sometimes called Peach Blossom Jade, Pink Marble, Hermannite, and many others. It is a silicate mineral that occurs as rounded crystals or grains in various manganese, giving it the black streaks. This stone carver has chosen to find a stone that is almost free of manganese except on the foot. The flattened rectangular form has a graceful form ending seamlessly into a slightly concave oval foot. The strong neck ends in a concave top. It is matched with a light green jade like stopper.

From my observations, the concave top and foot are signs these can be dated from 1950;s to 1980’s. Most of the contemporary bottles have flat feet.
